Pharmacy First Get Expert NHS Advice & Treatment

Khaira Pharmacy is proud to offer the Pharmacy First service, a new NHS initiative giving you faster access to expert care and treatment for common conditions, without needing to see a GP.

What is Pharmacy First?

Khaira Pharmacy brings you Pharmacy First. This NHS initiative empowers our pharmacists to assess and treat seven common minor health conditions directly, without needing a GP appointment. It is fast, convenient, and designed to ease pressure on local surgeries.
You can speak directly with one of our trained pharmacists in-store, who can assess your symptoms and provide advice, treatment, and medication where appropriate, all free of charge on the NHS.

What Can We Help With?

How to Access the Service. Simply walk into your Khaira Pharmacy and ask our team about Pharmacy First. No appointment necessary.

You may also be referred directly by your GP, NHS 111, or some A&E departments.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in Women
16–64 years

Women aged between 16 and 64 suffering from uncomplicated UTIs can receive assessment and treatment directly at Khaira Pharmacy, often including antibiotics if required—no GP visit needed unless complications arise.

Shingles
18 years and over

If you’re aged 18 or above and suspect you have shingles, our pharmacists can provide guidance, symptom relief, and even antiviral medication where clinically necessary—getting you the care you need quickly.

Infected Insect Bites & Stings
1 year and older

In cases where insect bites or stings become infected, affecting those aged 1 and up, our pharmacists can assess the situation and provide treatment—ranging from topical products to prescription options—without you needing to see a GP.

Sore Throat
5 years and over

For sore throats affecting anyone aged 5 and above, our pharmacists can quickly offer advice, recommend lozenges or sprays, and, if clinically necessary, prescribe medication. It’s a convenient alternative to waiting for a GP appointment.

Sinusitis
12 years and over

If you’re aged 12 or older and suffering from sinusitis, Khaira Pharmacy pharmacists are on hand to assess your needs and provide prompt treatment— without the need for a GP appointment. This includes over-the-counter relief or, where appropriate, prescription options to ease your symptoms efficiently

Impetigo
1 year and older

For impetigo, a contagious yet routinely manageable skin condition in patients aged 1 and older, Khaira Pharmacy offers swift pharmacist consultations and treatment solutions—again, bypassing the GP when appropriate.

Earache
1–17 years

Children between the ages of 1 and 17 experiencing earache can be seen directly by our trained pharmacists. If suitable, they can provide relief or escalate to a prescription-based solution, ensuring fast, compassionate care.

If your symptoms match any of the above, you may not need to book a GP appointment — just visit us and ask for a Pharmacy First consultation.
No Appointment Needed
You can walk in at a time that suits you. Our pharmacist will take you through a private consultation and recommend the best course of action. If needed, we can supply medicines directly, all as part of the NHS service.
